Rea Vaya public transportation resumes ferrying passengers after two days of quiet at the bus stops and depots. This after the two bus drivers were ambushed at Protea Glen and Mapetla locations on Monday. This forced Piotrans and Litsamaiso the companies behind the bus rapid transport system to suspend operations until further notice.
The Dobsonville main depot looked like an abandoned building conspicuous of the usual queues of passengers young and old, having left stranded as their trusted mode of transport had been halted. Even the ticket counter where some would recharge their travel cards for travelling to various destinations. It is unfortunate that attackers for whatever reason that motivated the attack would use such extreme force to make their statement, leaving passengers traumatised after witnessing such barbaric acts.
Piotrans and Litsamaiso have ensured the safety of passengers and drivers by beefing up security claiming that their buses will now be safely escorted to various stops and destinations. We hope that there will be a resolve to avert disturbing incidents that leave both commuters and bus drivers with anxiety further on.
