Johannesburg, 15 October 2024 – SABC 1 is pleased to announce the launch of the new comedy-drama series DiChipi by JiK’iZinto on Thursdays at 18:30 starting from 17 October 2024.

Set in Soshanguve, Mabopane, DiChipi by JiK’iZinto follows three unlikely friends who rely on each other after a chaotic night that places the future of their community centre in jeopardy. This pivotal event thrusts them into a journey of self-discovery and collective and individual growth as they strive to save the centre from closure caused by their actions.

As they navigate the challenges of youth, the trio explore mental health, sex, and economic independence, all while managing family and academic pressures alongside complex relationship dynamics. Their deepest fear is not just losing the centre, but also failing to recognise and realise their dreams.

Through their respective love for music, comedy, and MMA fighting, they draw strength and shape their identities in the world. DiCHiPi by JiK’iZinto delves into the themes of family, identity, and love, showcasing the power of friendship, self-determination and resilience in the face of adversity.

The series features Nkateko Mabunda as Nthabiseng, Azande Mkhungo as Mpume, Lesego Jacobs as Lorcia, Lauren Smit as Grace, Vanessa Swart as Yvette, Jason Willemse as Mechanic Bae and Keenan Angelo Arrison as Anton.

JiK’iZinto is proud to present DiCHiPi, a quintessentially Sosha story following a group of young people navigating life. Featuring celebrity cameos such as DJ KMAT, DiCHiPi is set to have you laughing, crying, and in your feels while sharing tips on how to find mentors, negotiate relationships, as well as, deal with mental health challenges.

Aimed at inspiring and equipping young people to make informed life choices, JiK’iZinto is co-created with South African youth and backed by Girl Effect, an international non-profit organisation. The brand offers a holistic approach that connects with young people where they are, leveraging music, multimedia content, and accessible digital platforms to provide vital information on topics like mental health, relationships, sexual and reproductive health, and career guidance.
