Munsieville Masters crowned champions of the Jampaka’s Masters Tournament
Share on FacebookShare on X

The final match between Munsieville Masters and Dambies Madambadamba brought the curtain down in a scintillating fashion despite Munsieville beating their rivals 4–1 during the 4th edition of the 2025 Jampaka Annual Top 8 Charity Tournament.

The tournament was established in 2022 and contested between the netball and soccer teams from around Mogale City. The games were held over the weekend of 22 and 23 February 2005 at the Atlholang Primary School Sports grounds.

The Charity tournament seeks to promote healthy lifestyle amongst the older generation and using football as a platform for community engagement, social impact and charitable contributions to local schools.

Speaking on the sidelines of the tournament, Bafana “Jampaka” Khumalo, the owner and founder of the Kagiso-based JP Pub and Grill said: “The importance of this tournament lies in its dual purpose and mission, which is to provide platform for local football talent to shine, while simultaneously raising awareness and importance of community involvement on matters sports development.”

During the games, Masters teams exhibited their ‘in my time silking and nimble footed talent and skills’ to the youngsters, while at the same time aiming to lift the prestigious floating trophy, winner’s medals and soccer jersey, while the loser’s finals settled for the silver medals.

After beating Kagiso International and Juventus on penalties, Dambies Madambadamba were seen as the tournament favourites, however, luck was not on their side as the late Sportscaster Cebo Manyaapelo used to say, ‘football has no therefore because the game of football is determined by the number of balls hitting the back of the net’.

Despite bringing the former Moroka Swallows Midfield maestro William ‘Bareki’ Lerefolo, Dambies were nowhere near threating the goals of Munsieville Masters. Dambies allowed their opponents to run supreme throughout the game, such that their goalkeeper, Azi Inyam, who stood shoulders above the rest of the team injured his right shoulder and was substituted, leading to the opening of the floodgates of goals for Munsieville Masters.

The disciplined Munsieville Masters allowed Dambies to attack and pouncing on them on numerous counterattacks, resulting in a glut of goals created on both flanks. Munsieville won the game from the middle of the park marshalled by Serame Chibuku Mashigo and Tebogo ‘Mashoabana’ Moanakwena, who was voted Man of the tournament.

Despite Munsieville Masters winning the tournament, they had to negotiate their path to the semi finals and then the finals, after succeeding a protest lodged by Piana Piana Master, who alleged that Munsieville Masters registered players after the cut-off date and time.

“In five-year’s time, we envision the Jamapaka’s Charity tournament to be a flagship event in the West Rand regions, attracting more teams as well as sponsors and spectators. We hope to see an increase in its social impact with the funds raised making significant difference in the lives of children in need,” Jampaka said.

The participating teams contributed R750 worth of sanitary pads serving as registration and participating fee, while the spectators were also urged to play their part and donate sanitary pads. The sanitary pas will be donated to still to be identified local schools.

Jampaka also urged local businesspeople to commit to the development of sports in Kagiso and the entire Mogale City. He said: “We want to urge the local busine ss community and the residents of Kagiso to continue supporting initiatives such as this one [Jampaka Charity tournament].

“Your support plays a key role in ensuring that our teenagers have opportunities to excel and it helps sustain charitable effort that make a meaningful impact in our communities.”

The Netball tournament was played by three teams, Queens, Riverside Romans and Mogale Legends. Mogale Legends were crowned the champions after beating Roman 9-15 in the finals. The winners will also receive the same prize as the soccer teams.
