Heroines of Jazz 2025 Moves to Constitution Hill’s Women’s Jail
Share on FacebookShare on X

MarumoFemme has announced a significant and symbolic venue change for the Heroines of Jazz 2025. The highly anticipated event originally set to take place at the Shades of Summer Boutique Hotel will now take place at the iconic Women’s Jail at Constitution Hill on Sunday, 27 April 2025, aligning even more powerfully with the spirit and symbolism of Freedom Day.

This move comes as a strategic partnership decision with Constitution Hill, one of South Africa’s most historic sites of resistance, remembrance, and renewal. The Women’s Jail, which once imprisoned anti-apartheid heroines such as Winnie Madikizela-Mandela, now serves as a cultural and creative space—making it a deeply fitting location for an event that honours the legacy of women in jazz and liberation movements.

The program remains unchanged, featuring headline performances by Siya Makuzeni, Gabi Motuba, MoAfrika wa Mokgathi, and Iphupho L’ka Biko, along with MarumoFemme’s signature DJ sets and a curated market of Creative Hub SMMEs.

“We are honoured to host this year’s edition of Heroines of Jazz at Constitution Hill – one of South Africa’s most profound sites of memory. It’s not just a venue, but a sacred ground. This further solidifies why Heroines of Jazz is regarded more than just a concert, but a tribute to matriarchs of music, innovators, and torch-bearers of heritage,” says Mamello Pule, Managing Director of MarumoFemme.

“This move amplifies our purpose for the event, which is to honour the voices, resilience, and artistry of Women in Jazz. It, further, allows us to centre the stories of women in our freedom journey while immersing audiences in music, history, and spirit.”

Constitution Hill’s Women’s Jail offers a space where memory meets music, and this event promises to be a celebration of freedom, feminine power, and cultural legacy.

All tickets purchased remain valid. Limited seats are still available via Computicket.
