Mogale City Ward Councillor laid to rest

The late Ward 12 councillor Kutlwano Goodrich Morake funeral, who passed away last week on the 4 April 2024 was laid to rest on Saturday, in Kagiso, West Rand. 

Councillor Morake, better known as Mokone, among his peers and within the political space, was laid to rest at the Kagiso Heroes Acre, at a funeral attended by dignitaries who included Mogale City Executive Mayor, Danny Thupane, the Gauteng MEC for Cogta, Mzi Khumalo, MEC for Sports Morakane Masupyoe, City Speaker of Council, Lucky Sele and Municipal Manager Makhosana Msezana.

Morake passed away after short illness. He was described by all those who took to the podium as a hard worker who always put his community first. Mayor described ward councillor Morake “as a hard-working, dedicated public servant”.

“We as the political leadership of Mogale City we would like to send our deepest condolences to the family of Morake, and the extended family. We have lost a councillor, a brother and a community leader.

“Councillor Kutlwano had a sense of humour even in council sittings, and the community of Mogale City watched with great interest how comrade Kutlwano went about to do his job as a dedicated and a hard-working young councillor.”

MEC Khumalo added his voice and said: “Councillor Morake’s untimely death is not only a loss for her family but to the residents of Mogale City as a whole”.

“His attitude towards community work and his relationship with members of community indicated that the community did not do the wrong choice in electing him as a ward Councillor. He will be missed however, he will forever remain in our hearts and minds for years to come,” Khumalo concluded. 

Mogale City Speaker Sele described him as a political giant, intellectual of high caliber and a humble servant of the people, who always called senior councillor pensioners. Sele said Morake played a significant role in making sure that his and other wards across Kagiso gets transformer, which were installed last year during Gauteng Premiers programme of Siya Transformer.

Morake was during at an emotional and highly charged ceremony at the Kagiso cemetery Heroes Acre.
