The Standard Bank exhibition held at the Sandton Convention Centre on 26 September is in honour of the legendary Peter Tladi who founded the festival and established T-Musicman company that served as organisers of the show from its inception 25 years ago serves as a prelude to the 2024 instalment of the magnanimous international jazz showcase. With dignitaries in attendance it is a down memory lane and sneak peak of the Joy of Jazz through the eyes of its iconic founder, the journey as narrated by Qondisa Ngwenya representing the festival, mentioned that he was opportuned to spend some time with Peter capturing snippets of the man’s illustrious journey.
Dr Same Mdluli the curator of the exhibition mentioned that the photographs by Siphiwe Mhlambi depict the story of the festival throughout the years, especially the set of Hugh Masekela and Jonas Gwangwa in display, who are some of the iconic artists invited to the Jazz spectacle, telling the South African story to the world.
She further mentioned that Tladi had to work with and build the musical community with artists through his T-Musicman company in successfully organising and running the festival. In more of the images Tladi interacted with jazz women greats and more important figures of society. The exhibition highlights the contribution of jazz musicians to our shared experiences over the past 25 years in our growing democracy” mentioned Mdluli. The exhibition will be on display throughout the festival.
