Johannesburg, South Africa – Internationally acclaimed pianist, vocal arranger, producer, songwriter, and educator, Dr. John Paul McGee, will grace the stage in Johannesburg on 01 November 2024. Known for his versatility and captivating performances, McGee will be performing live at Chiesa di Pazzo Lupi, Melville, bringing his unique blend of gospel and jazz.

A celebrated musician, Dr. McGee’s instrumental album, released in 2014 through EPM Records, earned him a #9 spot on the Billboard Top Recording Artists list. His remarkable career has seen collaborations with music icons including Patti LaBelle, The Isley Brothers, The Clark Sisters, the NFL Players Choir, VaShawn Mitchell, Kim Burrell, and Earnest Pugh. Currently, he serves as the Assistant Chair of Piano at Berklee College of Music in Boston, Massachusetts.

Event Details:

  • Date: 01 November 2024
  • Time: 19:30
  • Venue: Chiesa di Pazzo Lupi, 34 4th Avenue, Melville, Johannesburg
  • Tickets: R200 online at Quicket | R250 at the door

Dr. McGee’s extraordinary musical journey began at the age of four in Baltimore, Maryland, where he started playing hymns and church songs by ear, despite no formal training. Recognizing his gift, his mother ensured he received proper musical education, leading him to study under the late Dr. Nathan Carter at the prestigious Baltimore School for the Arts, from which he graduated in 2002.

Audiences can look forward to a mesmerizing performance featuring selections from his critically acclaimed album Gospejazzical Volume 1, released in 2022. Accompanying McGee on stage will be a talented ensemble of South African musicians: Amaeshi Ikechi (bass), Siphiwe Shiburi (drums), and Karabo Mohlala (saxophone). Together, they promise an unforgettable evening filled with soulful Gospel Jazz melodies.

Don’t miss this rare opportunity to experience the magic of Dr. John Paul McGee live in concert!
