As part of the seven-year celebration of our publication’s history, we reflect on the journey travelled, collaborating with Harmony,
showcasing its strategic value-add within its mine communities. The proudly South African gold miner has been playing a significant
role in its host communities in and around Gauteng province.
Sunrise News has been privileged to be at the forefront as a publication to reach out, inform, interact and update people on the
enriching the pivotal part that Harmony plays in the broader society, innovatively shifting mindsets beyond the iconic mining shafts and
makarapa!
To this day we are witness to the monumental strides and accomplishments made by the mining giant through its social upliftment
programmes. From an array of contributions in education, healthcare, social development, enterprise development and infrastructure,
Harmony has cemented its role as a key strategic partner in the host communities.
Throughout the years, Harmony has empowered a multitude of entrepreneurs and suppliers in many disciplines, including yours truly,
Sunrise News.
In recent times, our people have experienced tough economic times, especially during and post the covid-19 scourge.
Harmony, as a responsible corporate citizen, went above and beyond its regulatory obligations through its strategic CSI initiatives, to
uplift our communities which were in dire straits.
Harmony’s community engagement structures have established two-way interactions with various community representatives and
leaders. Other stakeholder engagements include: social and non-profit organisations, government departments, and regional
representatives.
Key discussions centre on the social needs of our communities and how Harmony can support some of these social ills.
Today, our communities can look up to Harmony as a key partner that not only talks the talk, but is action-driven and delivers on its
promises.
We can all look back in awe and forward with renewed optimism, and currently with the assurance that Harmony is truly committed to
the sustainable empowerment of South Africa and its people. That is the legacy it truly strives for.
