Police in Kagiso on 22nd March 2024 rendered much needed support to one of their close social partners, Westview Clinic in a 5km walk /march to raise an awareness about the devastating negative impact of drug abuse to families, communities and the nation at large.
The 5km walk was also supported by members of the community including the youth. It started at the clinic near Kagiso Police station accompanied by a convoy of law enforcement and health practitioners.
The objective of the walk was mainly to encourage anyone that was suffering from addiction to go to the clinic for help, as it has on record helped a considerable number of drug addicts.
Other stakeholders that supported the event included the department of Health, Emergency services, the local government, Mogale city Traffic department, Elinye Ithuba NGO and the Crime Traffic wardens.
About six recovered drug addicts gave their testimonies. Some of whom have recovered from the 14 years old addiction and become pastors. While some have lost almost all that they have achieved in life, as a result of drug addiction.
In an event that that presented its as both an eye opener and informative, the common message was that addiction can be beaten and they themselves bore testimony with their experiences. They concluded by mentioning that rejection by members of society was also an unfortunate contributor. “You can’t overcome addiction on your own, but you need to ask for Devine intervention to take full control of your life”, said one recovered addict who has currently turned pastor.
