The National Lotteries Commission (NLC) has announced new funding focus areas which will inform the funding allocations for 2024/25 financial year.
“Funding focus areas are determined as a means to ensure impact and relevance for our funding, and to make sure that distribution of funding is fair as informed by the prevailing needs in those sectors”, said NLC Commissioner, Jodi Scholtz.
The current year’s focus areas are a continuation of the 2023/24 funding focus areas, and include Gender-Based Violence, Protection of the Vulnerable, Food Security and Animal Welfare in the Charities Sector.
One of the goals of the Arts, Culture and National Heritage Sector is to stimulate and promote excellence in all areas of the arts, culture and heritage, and the focus areas are geared toward the fulfilment of that outcome, while the Sport and Recreation focus areas place emphasis on increasing levels of learner participation in sport and recreation including indigenous sport, among others.
These focus areas are published on the NLC website www.nlcsa.org.za and available for download.
In an online public announcement at the end of October, NLC Commissioner Scholtz outlined key developments and dates in the build-up to the opening of the Call for Applications in December 2024. These included the launch of an online platform for not-for-profit organisations to register profiles that would prepare for applications for funding.
Media Statement Issued by the National Lotteries Commission “We have worked diligently to respond to the frustrations of our stakeholders around the long wait for funding, while ensuring that we build a system that responds rapidly, increase the efficiency and enhance the impact of our work through the development of a new grant application and management system”, said Scholtz.
Scholtz also touched on the backlog in adjudications from the 2023/24 Call for Applications, with around 2600 of the over 5000 applications received awaiting adjudication.
“While those organisations that are awaiting the outcome of their previous applications will not be able to apply until they receive feedback, they are encouraged to register profiles and be included in our database”.
The NLC will receive applications for funding on the online platform from 2 December 2024. Applicants with limited access to online platforms will be assisted at NLC offices countrywide.
