The festive season is again upon us, as we round up the activities of the year and look back and reflect on goals which we have attained and those that we still have not been attained we are faced with mixed emotions.
We are reminded once again of the reason for the season, which speaks of a love so great, unconstrained the love of God, which was manifested in flesh. Where the Creator became that which He created to display a standard enormous and yet attainable.
This love stirs in us the desire to look beyond ourselves, seeking to extend a helping hand to those less fortunate than yourselves. Our neighbors, family members. There is nothing that is so fulfilling than meeting someone’s need, it gives one a sense of a higher purpose.
We were created as social beings, to display love. The love of one’s brother which is a cohesive force that binds us and creates a bond so great and formidable that it is almost impenetrable.
I am my brother’s keeper, this should always be at the back of our minds as we do our Christmas shopping, an extra item of food, of clothing, that toy, this act of love leaves a permanent imprint in the recipients’ heart.
Selflessness is not reciprocated, that is why it highly esteemed, it is a rare gem in this world that promotes scarcity and therefore selfishness. I am because we are, speaks of a collective consciousness where societies thrive on the notion of togetherness. Phrases such as ‘love your neighbor as you love yourself’ have eluded us and have been replaced with ‘me-ism’ which encourages narcissism.
For as long as we are in the current chronological dispensation, there is hope. Enjoy the festive introspect, don’t be too hard on yourself!
