On April 16, 2025, the Ebenezer Child Development Programme, a cherished nursery daycare nestled in Bram Fischerville, hosted a vibrant Easter celebration that brought together children, grandparents, and community members in a heartwarming display of love and unity. The atmosphere was lively and welcoming, filled with the joyous laughter of children and the tender smiles of their grandparents, all coming together to celebrate the spirit of the holiday.
As the festivities began, Mama Boemo Bogatsu, the esteemed Principal of the daycare, took to the stage to address the gathered guests. With warmth in her voice, she reminded everyone that the daycare thrives because of their support and involvement, encouraging gratitude for the precious gift of life. She highlighted the presence of social workers among them, who were available to answer questions and provide valuable resources for those seeking assistance in raising their children. This initiative underscored the daycare’s commitment to not only nurturing young minds but also empowering families within the community.

Following Mama Bogatsu’s inspiring speech, the stage came alive with performances from the children, who were accompanied by their enthusiastic teachers. The little ones sang heartwarming songs that celebrated Easter, while their grandparents cheered them on with ululations, adding to the electrifying energy of the event. The highlight of their performance was a beautifully narrated story of Jesus, interspersed with poignant Bible verses, as proud grandparents fought the urge to clap along, mindful of not interrupting their grandchildren’s heartfelt presentation.
After the delightful performance, Mama Bogatsu introduced Alley McPherson, the founder of Sisterhood Foundation S.A., along with her dedicated team. McPherson expressed her organization’s mission to promote early childhood development (ECD) literacy through books and joyful activities. She announced an exciting Easter egg hunt that had been organized for the children, encouraging them to search for hidden treasures with their grandparents by their side. Mama Bogatsu thoughtfully reassured children whose grandmothers could not attend that she would gladly step into that role for them. McPherson further elaborated on the foundation’s annual Easter and Christmas drives aimed at spreading love and kindness, particularly in underserved areas like Bram Fischerville.

The event also featured Thembelihle Buthelezi, a compassionate social worker who introduced various free services available to families in need. She spoke about foster care programs for children without parents or those affected by substance abuse, as well as services dedicated to protecting the rights of the elderly. Buthelezi emphasized that these services come at no cost to families and encouraged anyone experiencing issues with their SASSA payments to visit local offices for assistance.
Teacher Sbonokuhle Lenake shared insights into the daycare’s innovative child development program, which is rooted in Montessori principles. She explained how the program emphasizes hands-on learning to nurture creativity and critical thinking in young minds. To keep parents informed about their children’s daily activities, Lenake mentioned that they utilize WhatsApp groups, fostering strong communication between home and school. She expressed her commitment to ensuring each child feels welcomed and supported within the classroom environment while teaching them essential safety and health practices.
Felleng Selina Moloi, another dedicated teacher, highlighted the enriching experiences that come from interacting with children from diverse backgrounds. She reflected on how this program has not only taught her patience but also inspired her to learn the Venda language. Moloi emphasized the importance of introducing challenging activities that promote development and encouraged children to help one another, fostering friendships and a sense of community among peers. She also noted their practice of instilling cleanliness habits in children to maintain a tidy environment.
The event drew to a close with an uplifting message from Pastor Makabongwe, who celebrated the invaluable role of grandmothers in their families and communities. She shared a powerful message about the resurrection of Jesus Christ, calling on everyone to respect their elders as a pathway to living a fulfilling life. The gathering ended on a high note, filled with gratitude and renewed connections among families, reinforcing the spirit of community that defines the Ebenezer Child Development Programme.
