On Sunday 19th January 2025, ASEZ WAO carried out a clean-up campaign at Orlando Police Station, Soweto, Johannesburg. A total of 85 volunteers worked together with police officers to cut the long grass and tree branches and picked up litter in and outside of the police station, and organised materials inside the yard of the station in collaboration with police station Commander. This as an intervention in the promoting safety and environmental well-being in the community of Orlando East.

ASEZ WAO is the young adult worker volunteer group from World Mission Society Church of God who contribute in making improvements for mankind and the earth by taking care of their neighbours and communities with young adults’ passion and positive energy and participating in environmental protection activities. ASEZ stands for ‘Save the earth from A to Z’ and WAO stands for ‘We Are One’. So ASEZ WAO means Save the Earth from the beginning to the end as one family. The young adult volunteers practice the virtue of serving mankind through various volunteer activities and climate response activities in 175 countries and 7500 regions around the world.

Colonel Ngubane who represented the Station Commander, lauded the volunteers who gathered and drove the initiative to make a lasting impact. “Your actions demonstrate the values of compassion, empathy, and love that our faith teaches us. By giving your time, energy to this noble cause you have shown that we are not just a community but the family that looks out for one another. I would like to extend my sincere appreciation to each and every one of you who participated in this initiative, your efforts will not only improve the physical environment of the police station. It will also leave the spirit of the
members”, she said.

Leading up to the clean-up campaign, The Police Station had eluded it had become difficult to do garden maintenance and care in the police station due to budget constraints.  “We used to have a company to take care of the grass and the landscaping of the police station yard, however due to low budgets from the state, we could not manage to hire a private company to do this work and we are
thankful to ASEZ WAO for stretching out a hand to help us out with our police station.” Brigadier Khubeka from the police station said.

As the police station serves the public in various aspect, it is important how it appears to the public, theASEZ WAO members were happy and delightful to lend a helping hand and put a bright smile on our police officers by taking care of their working environment which helps serve the community of Orlando and the country of South Africa.
ASEZ WAO aims to become one by having the heart of Mother and taking necessary action to promote more sustainable practices and make a positive impact on the environment. ASEZ WAO carries out the Take Action Project (TAP) to tap into people’s awareness for sustainable development of the Earth and humankind. Through TAP, ASEZ WAO volunteers Talk, Act and Partner to create lasting change.
